The Challenges of Finding Partnerships as a Volunteer Association

Our Partners The Association
Volunteer associations like Les Disciples d’Escoffier Provence Méditerranée play an important role in preserving culinary heritage, supporting local producers, transmitting skills, and organizing charitable gastronomic events. Yet, securing partnerships is often difficult. Below are some of the key challenges, followed by what our association is doing and how potential partners can reach us.

Key Challenges

  1. Limited financial resources As a nonprofit with mostly volunteer leadership, budgeting for outreach, events, and marketing is tight. Partnering often requires investments (e.g. in-kind contributions, logistics, communication) that can strain our resources.
  2. Visibility and reach Even though we are part of the international Disciples Escoffier network and are recognised in the Provence Méditerranée region, not all companies or institutions are aware of our existence or of the value we bring. Inflation, saturation of sponsorship requests, and competition for media attention make it harder to get noticed.
  3. Matching expectations For a partnership to work well, the objectives of both the association and the partner must align. Sometimes what we propose (promotion of gastronomy, transmission, charité) does not match what a business is looking for (ROI, marketing exposure, branding). Negotiating terms that are mutually beneficial can be time-consuming.
  4. Administrative and legal constraints Rules around sponsorship, tax deductibility, contracts, liability, and insurance can be a hurdle for both partners and associations. Smaller associations may lack expertise in this field, making formalizing partnerships more complex.
  5. Sustainability & follow-through One-off or short-term partnerships are often easier to set up, but lasting collaboration is more valuable. Ensuring continuity (in terms of funding, commitment, and deliverables) over time is always a challenge—especially when many movers are volunteers and capacity is limited.
  6. Pandemic / economic climate Recent years have added another layer of difficulty: economic uncertainty, constraints on event gatherings, rising costs, etc., making companies more cautious about investing in sponsorships or partnerships.
